An upgrade from Nouble and Telford as a back-up striker (send Telford out on loan) and desperate for a genuinely mobile and effective central defender. That's a big ask !

Part of me thinks a dominating centre back won’t be THAT hard to find, especially in English football. Certainly compared to a goal-scoring striker.

Obviously we need a higher standard now, but when we picked up players like Wotton, Purse and Branston in L2 it massively improved us.

With ball-playing centre backs all the rage, it could be there are quite a few big, vocal, ‘old fashioned’ types out there who could organise our defence. We may have to change our style a tad though...

I’ve discovered something that I didn’t think was a problem but I’m coming to a conclusion that maybe the GK position is actually an issue.

It’s clear we need organisation and a voice from the root of defence. Something that we do not have presently.

For me it uas to be the defence. Without a solid foundation the midfield or strikers cannot get on the ball and play.

Still on the fence with Mayor, would like to see what he can do with a stronger defence before i fully make my mind up

So now we need a left-wing back.

Conor Grant and Byron Moore can do a job although it is a specialist position requiring someone to be energetic and extremely fit to get up and down. A proper LWB might also bring the best out of Danny Mayor.

Also requires someone who can defend which Cooper could never do. I prefer Grant anyway so don't think we do need a lwb. We need a commanding centre half and a target man up front as Nouble clearly cannot do that.

For me its a wingback that does have the energy to get up and down and defend. The problem I'm seeing time and time again is that the right or left CB is being drawn out to close down the opposition R/L winger because our WB can't get back in time to cover. This leaves us with space in the middle which Fornah/McLeod etc don't really fill. If our WB's can get back and cover those bottom corners then our back 3 can stay tight. If Lowe persists in sticking with this formation he needs WB's with an abundance of energy. Joe Edwards is a prime example (although I'd prefer he played in the CDM role)....G Cooper is not a good example.

Ok so the transfer window is open and we all have opinions on what we need to bring in or replace, what youngsters have you seen so far that we could realistically look at bringing in on loan?

Youngsters are the last thing we need. We must bring in some defensive experience if we can. Both goals we gave away today were so soft again.

Agreed, an experienced defender would be lovely. I wasnt just thinking defensively though.

If someone was to come in and take say Telford would you not want a youngster like the lad who scored for villa? (I know I said realistic)

I wonder if Lowe had enquired about any of the Huddersfield players that played yesterday

Too inexperienced. We need a mature head when the going gets tough.

The 28 year old Spaniard?
I thought he looked half decent and I thought Critchlow looked alright as well
