He lost is place in the side due to a dip in confidence..

In other words, all part of a young player's development. It would show irresponsible, poor management to keep him in the side as the confidence drains away, causing potentially lasting damage; far better to take him out of the limelight until the confidence returns.

Anyone (agents etc) attempting to mess up Mason's career by turning the situation into anything more sinister will have a very short career in the game themselves.
