This is a new division for us, we are learning all the time, the team and the staff.

We are bound to come unstuck against the big hitters who are seriously trying to get to the Championship, and have had time in this division to strengthen their team accordingly.

We aren't going to get promoted this season, let's just see how it pans out. Our target this season is to avoid relegation.

We are doing that quite well so far.

Peterborough will be another side that is going for promotion. Let's see if we can get anything out of this match.

It's not the end of the world if we lose, is it?

However, performance is the key to this match, rather than result.

If Mayor is fit I'd go for ...

McCormick

Aimson, Opoku, Watts

Edwards, Camara, Grant, Moore.

......... Mayor

Jephcott, Hardie.

Lowe sometimes plays Mayor in a central position behind the two strikers so I would go for this with Camara and Grant sitting deep just to make us more solid in midfield.
I completely agree with your defence, midfield and attack, except I'd play George Cooper instead of Edwards - maybe Fornah in for Camara too, but thats the shape I want to see away from home.

However, Cooper's distribution is pivotal to how we play, and I'd much rather him than Luke. Also, I note your point re. resting and rotating players like Jephcott, but I don't think that's necessary for goalkeepers who cover less distance. Cooper's command of area has actually been very good so far this season, and his shot stopping is better than the Luke of 3 years ago so it will definitely be better now.

I dont think its leadership thats missing, it's tactical flexibility.

That's a very sensible post. I must admit I was one of those who got a bit carried away after the home performances and Saturday's thrashing was a wake up call. However if we wind back to the start of the season, most of us would have taken mid-table obscurity this season and indeed many pundits were predicting 17th-18th-19th for Argyle. After all, we only won promotion by a whisker, due to Covid finishing the season earlier...... So even if we lost tomorrow, having lets face it, played some strong sides away (Hull, Lincoln, Fleetwood, Peterborough), with only one big side at home (pompey) and are in mid-table or slightly below, I don't think its that a bad start in all honesty.

Yes, only difference is you’ve gone for Fornah in preference to Grant.
Have you thoughts on subs?

Would never drop Cooper, ridiculous. It would destroy his confidence.

I think there's a case to be made for both for bringing Luke in and keeping Cooper in. I've been wanting to see Cooper tried in midfield for a while now. I think Grant at LWB may be able to provide some quality balls in for Frank.

I'm glad you're not picking the team
