ATS is the only surprise for me too. Given how Sawyer was saying that he's the best left-back he's had to compete against for a spot, perhaps it was more of a mutual decision with Taylor-Sinclair wanting to move on to get more game time? I wouldn't be happy sitting on a coach for hours, then not playing or getting 15 minutes here and there.

Happy with most of that.

Also happy to see Songo'o get offered a new deal. When he was being played as a DM he was many people's player of the season....just keep him away from CB!

Agreed, there was a spell in the middle of the season where he was one of our best players.

There's definitely a time and a place for him.

Other than ATS, no surprises there - plus Adams might have a better option than him already lined up, which would make him being released make more sense.

Why on earth did we give two-year contracts to Ainsworth and Wylde when they haven't fitted into Adams' system though

Because if we gave them 1 year deals and they turned out to be brilliant, people would moan about Argyle only giving short term deals.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I said on the other thread we should release one of Sawyer or ATS, and Sawyer has the edge thanks to his experience.

ATS perhaps going to make room for a new number 1 lb? Be interesting to see if Sawyer keeps the armband

Club captain with a different on-field captain?

I could see that happening, he deserves his contract offer but id like to see a better lb if we can get one.
Perhaps Fox or Bradley would be good captain options if they stay.

Hopefully we dangle the armband as a carrot for Bradley, big boots to fill if he left.

I'd argue we've got bigger priorities that at LB. IMO Sawyer is more than good enough at this level, fits into the system well and has got a good delivery. Can also cover at RB if needed - a more pressing concern, especially if Ozzy doesn't accept.

Obviously depending on who signs on, but with the players we've currently got in contract it certainly feels like a very strong nucleus to work with - if a little light defensively.

My thanks too to the players departing, I know we criticise but its a tough gig for these lads, especially in the lower leagues, hopefully they find employment elsewhere.

ATS hasn't been able to get himself ahead of Sawyer all season, maybe he's just not good enough...

Does GC10 have the characteristics of a good captain? Always seems to be motivating others and has a good work ethic.

Yes probably but considering the type of player he is, I'd prefer he just focused on his own game.

Wonder how long we have given them to decide. With Carey 12m ago we had to bend over backwards and give as much time as possible, in the interim buying players as possible replacements who rarely got a look in when he put pen to paper.

Hopefully we aren't in that position again this summer with people hanging out to the 11th hour to sign and the club remaining in limbo either missing out on targets or buying unnecessarily.

Sorry Drew but I disagree with the point above.

The more last season developed, the more Sawyer was sussed out and caught for pace. Adams noticed this on numerous occasions and brought ATS on to sure up the defence in the second half.

Sawyers lack of pace also restricted his attacking ability. With the narrow midfield formation we play, our full backs offer the out ball and only real width. Sawyers lack of pace restricted our attacks on numerous occasions as he does not have the pace to travel with the ball.

I am pretty certain that Derek Adams will be in the hunt for a first team, specialist left back this summer with Sawyer providing back up.
