Does GC10 have the characteristics of a good captain? Always seems to be motivating others and has a good work ethic.

Yes probably but considering the type of player he is, I'd prefer he just focused on his own game.

Fair point although i personally think that having the armband in football doesn't necessarily impact performance as it tends to in sports like cricket etc.

They aren't responsible for tactics or anything, just geeing the team up and ensuring we stay disciplined.

I'd argue we've got bigger priorities that at LB. IMO Sawyer is more than good enough at this level, fits into the system well and has got a good delivery. Can also cover at RB if needed - a more pressing concern, especially if Ozzy doesn't accept.

Sorry Drew but I disagree with the point above.

The more last season developed, the more Sawyer was sussed out and caught for pace. Adams noticed this on numerous occasions and brought ATS on to sure up the defence in the second half.

Sawyers lack of pace also restricted his attacking ability. With the narrow midfield formation we play, our full backs offer the out ball and only real width. Sawyers lack of pace restricted our attacks on numerous occasions as he does not have the pace to travel with the ball.

I am pretty certain that Derek Adams will be in the hunt for a first team, specialist left back this summer with Sawyer providing back up.

Fair enough PC - I can't argue with any of that.
However (most of this is hypothetical based on who signs on..) I'd still rather see the budget used elsewhere in the team.

I'd like to see Sonny get the armband, I think he's a real leader on the pitch and at our level I genuinely think it makes a difference, not least to the player who has it.

Likelihood would be Sawyer getting though I imagine, which isn't a choice I'm unhappy with as he's done a good job this season.

I too was surprised by ATS and, to a lesser extent, Songo'o.

My gut feeling is that Fox will go due to the commute but it would be great if he could do one more year.

Retaining Bradley is the big one on the list for me, but no-one is irreplaceable.

Yeah he would make a good captain and should be given the armband in my opinion. I think sawyer will keep it for next season though. As for the retained list, no real surprises, I understand offering songo a contract, a good squad player that gives us options. Can see wylde and ainsworth heading out on loan eventually.

I can't see Wylde coming back. Agree about Ainsworth as well.

The contract offers could vary quite considerably depending onot how keen Adams is to keep them. Songo'o could have been given a "if you go we don't care" type offer for example. Like Harvey's a few seasons ago.

Is Wylde likely to have other options? If you've got a relatively well paid job, even if you're not happy you don't leave until there's an alternative. A very strange signing.

Bradley for captain (if he stays) is an interesting one. It makes sense, but then I find myself wondering why Bradley didn't become captain when Sawyer took over the on-pitch duties when McCormick got injured (as SB injured or suspended at the time maybe).

Of course it depends what sort of contracts have been offered....but I would expect Songo'o and Sawyer to be resigned as squad members rather than first choices and given their ages/affinities to DA would hope they both stay on board.

The three key ones are obviously Bradley Threlkeld and Fox and we will do well to retain two of the three.

I completely get Fox wanting to be back near his family although his metronomic ability tp keep moving the play will be hard to replace.

Bradley is an iconic player who represents a lot of what is good about the team and spirit....not sure he is good enough to play Championship so will be interesting to see what he does....

the most likely departure is sadly Oscar, mobile, more experienced than when he joined and very committed ...and now free..think he might be off.

Only disappointment for me is ATS....but given how infrequently DA used him not a shock

Interesting times

That's exactly what happened. Bradley got sent off in McCormick's last game (Doncaster) before injury so missed the next three games. With McCormick and Bradley missing the captains armband went to Sawyer who kept it when Bradley returned.

It's funny. I have literally just been checking GoS and came back onto this thread to post a response to my own question! I guess that once Sawyer had possession of the armband there was no good reason to take it off him again.
