27 out of my 31 years on this earth have been spent living in Plymouth or living a short bus ride away, Posty - it's not an opinion formed since I moved to London.

'it is what it is' sums it up nicely.
Well said that 7 year old lad.

I really don't get that argument. What it is, scrambling around in league 2 is what it shouldn't be. I very much doubt he'll think that in a few years if we haven't progressed.

I've seen it all over the years.
Good times and bad.
It is what it is.

Present tense - yes. Past tense - yes. Future tense - not necessarily. We can hope, we can dream, we can support our club!

I cant get my head around that medal table as if we were a sporting superpower when the vast majority of the population are couch potatoes and many are obese.

So speaks Balham Green, socialist firebrand and man of the people.

Money. Led by cycling...

Today, the British cyclists are the best-funded in the sport. Over the past four-year cycle, their budget exceeded $32 million. The U.S., meanwhile, spends around $1 million a year on track cycling, according to USA Cycling, with the bulk of it focused on its women’s pursuit team.

“It was very clear that lottery funding is about gold medals, not even [just] medals,” Boardman said, pointing out that the majority of funding is allocated to sports in which the country has a shot to win medals. “Gold medals in the Olympic Games—not world records, not growing the sport.”

Britain’s lead is now nearly impossible to overhaul. Its financial advantage means that every cycle, Team GB can afford to keep technological innovations under wraps until the eve of the Games. As U.S. coach Andy Sparks put it, they get to the Olympics and “just unload their nuclear weapons on you.”

Surely anything is what it is. It cannot be something else. One thing cannot be two things. Two things may abstractly be one thing (a shark and an eel are both fish), but a fish cannot be both a shark and an eel. It has to make a choice.

If something was what it wasn't then the laws of physics would come crashing around us; a tree could claim to be a dandelion, a salamander could also be a skyscraper, and Steve Maclean could claim to have been a good footballer. Total chaos.

I met a Bournemouth supporter of many years today. I know her quite well.

I asked her how was it "living the dream" in the top league.

Her reply ? We used to go everywhere to watch the team, but now we can't get tickets to go to away matches. When we do go the grounds are sterile. She said she would rather be back in the Championship. In the top league the only enjoyment is not to lose.

I remember meeting some Watford fans on the Barbican some years ago when we played them in the cup. They said the same thing.

So "is it all that when it is what we wish it was" ?
