I thought the way forward was to invest in youth, with a couple of wise heads in the team. Not some noughties testimonial side.

Norris was about pace and attacking intent not the intelligent playmaker. He's well past his best. I'd rather the playing budget was spent elsewhere.

Would love to see him come back sentimental reasons, and he probably has that top quality left in his tank, however like others I would worry about his lack of football played and his injuries acquired and how much that has taken from him

I have no idea if dave norris is past it. All i would know for sure is like
sawyer he would bring vast experience to the squad. Which hopefully could
benefit the team and help our youngsters develop.
Execetur have just signed 37yo jamie mcallister. Alongside 37yo matt oakley,
35yo butterworth, 33yo noble and 32yo davies. Their younger pros seem to be
developing around these seniors.
Maybe DA wants more experience in the squad in general? We only
have the 2 keepers and sawyer over 30. Most are still under 25.

Agree with this. I once saw Dave Mackay, nearly 50, play a blinder for Swindon, even though he never moved out of the centre circle. just prompted, guided and motivated with some superb passes, driving his team (he was player/manager) forward.

I understand everybody else's point of view too Earl Grey, however I do find it ironic that almost every transfer window or end to one of his contracts the consensus seems to be we'd have him back in a shot, then when it could happen, maybe not.

If he's going to drop to L2 I would far rather have him down here on even a 1 yr contract with an option for an extension than have him do the business against us.

Plus if he's coming up to the end of his career, imagine what a coach with his drive and work ethic could do for us.....

I think you two have it there.

I think he will bring invaluable experience and qualiy to the squad, should he come back.

I'm not so sure, Norris's game was based on work rate and energy, would he be so effective at 34. A lot would depend on his fitness levels.

Saw George Best do the same when he was much younger, but training on vodka, and not wanting to run. Norris, however, is not that sort of passing player.

Who knows what sort of player he has developed into over the last few years.

Experience and inteligence counts for a lot especially at this level. Just dont expect the David Norris of 10 years ago.

I recall Ernie Machin playing a lot of games with a troublesome groin injury. Rarely left the centre circle but Waiters played him because he could still manage the game on one leg. Steve McAll was supposed to be past his best when he came here yet is one of the outstanding players to have graced Home Park in the post war era. So there are precedents for decent players who cannot get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes yet have a massive affect on those around them. My only worry is that Norris has not played very much in the past two campaigns. A handful of starts and a few substitute appearances. It may risk putting him off returning but to me he should come only on a trial basis or on a short contract while he proves his fitness.

obviously not homesick anymore and we can give him back the 2 fingers he gave us a few seasons ago

Don't remember the 2 fingers. Which game?

I don't recall that either. I remember McLean and Barnes doing similar but not Norris.
