Take Kane, Vardy, Sturridge and Rooney. Start two each game - no more, no less - and take Welbeck as a left mid.

Pick Clyne and Bertrand as the full backs, with Walker and Rose deputising, and leave Jagielka, Jones and Baines at home.
So little to choose between Walker and Clyne. Rose has got better as the season has gone on and Bertrand perhaps a little the other day. However, I think both are ahead of the lad Cresswell at West Ham, though his time may come in the 2018 WC campaign. I don't think Baines has had enough football this season. I really struggle to see Jones as international class. If a player has reached his age without a specialist position it is often because he is not quite the real deal in either of the positions he plays. I do like Jagielka. When you look at Everton's defensive record you have to wonder how "superb" John Stones actually is. It is all very well him being able to dribble and pass, but if he cannot defend then the number 5 or 6 shirt is not the place to be. Nice to see an England manager with a few problems of this nature.

You like Jagielka but Stones is the sole one at fault for Everton's defensive woes?

I like Milner but he's more of a utility player and we should have enough specialist reserve players to cover.

Just passing an opinion Josh - thought that was what the debate was about!!

I can see Hodgson using Rooney like Man U did last Sunday against Leicester by picking him as an attacking midfielder. I would like to see Kane and Vardy coached to be a successful twin attacking force. If Dier is to be the holding midfielder, the question remains whether Arsenal's Wiltshire, just back from long term injury, will be fit enough to be a creator in midfield. I could see that working. For this tournament I would use a fit Wiltshire over the internationally inexperienced Delli Alli. There is also a case for taking Walcott as a speedster to get behind a defending full back to deliver crosses for the benefit of Kane/ Vardy/Sturridge. I would rather him than Oxlade-Chamberlain. I really cannot see a place for Carroll, other than a stand-by reserve.

As for the right back, I would take Walker before Clyne. Walker is taller for defending high balls and is more robust. This season I have seen him improve as an attacking force, more so than Clyne, who would be cover.

I would definitely pick Smalling and I reckon Cahill will also be picked as twin CBs, but whether Jagielka will travel, I am not so sure. He has been a tower of strength this season for a fading Everton. Hodgson's problem is that he is not spoilt for choices for CBs. Stones tends to look elegant coming out of defence with the ball at his feet, but has weaknesses defensively. Who else is out there pushing for selection in that key position. Definitely not Jones but Shawcross of Stoke, perhaps?

Fair point - not sure either of them are up to scratch personally!

If any English midfielder deserves their chance to play in the euros then its 100% Alli!

I'd genuinely try to get John Terry out of retirement to partner Smalling, I also said this back in 2014 for Brazil but to partner Cahill. Still has it in him whether you like the bloke or not.

Lots of reports saying that Stones and Barkley are so bad at the moment that they should be spared the embarrassment of the Euros.

Squad players. Nothing more at this present time.

Unfortunately, we don't have many other options. Especially now we are without Welbeck (huge blow) and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Maybe Stones as a defender, but a talented midfielder can 'bloom' at any time at short notice, provided he isn't injured, Barkley could be the 'spark' at a crucial moment. :scarf:
