Is Derek the right manager?

He is slowly killing this/his Argyle team.

When Pulis played football at least you knew you had a chance of keeping a clean sheet. His style was just awful to watch but in the championship against the majority of those type of teams and because it was effective then it was bearable.

Last season the football was dire. The only thing that saved it was a promotion out of league 2. What we had witnessed years before, the administration years and the general standard of success this club has in it's history has meant that a promotion sticks out like a sore thumb and we rejoice (and why not) when we achieve any type of limited success.

However, this season we should have progressed. We should have a better team. A better squad. And play a better brand of football than we served up last year. However, being 24th in league one suggests none of the above are true. The results suggest none of the above is true.

Watching Argyle is suppose to be fun. Football is a game after all. Although now as a club we have employed a manager with a win at all costs mentality. Unfortunately, that includes destroying a game of football in order to obtain a result by his only means possible.

I find that very sad because all this man is doing is ruining the enjoyment l have watching my team play. Don't expect to win every eeek or play beautiful football. Yet for the love of god, have a go at the opposition and don't just retreat to your bunker you have dug just outside your own penalty box like a team of surrender monkeys.

Not everyone agrees with the EFL games but we could have used it for a confidence boost. Play well, get the win and take that into the next game. Small steps of improvement.

Instead we go a goal up and lose the match 2-1.

Get this clown away from my club.

Agree 100%; when honestly has this team delivered sustained attacking movement that gets the crowd going? We’ve clung to Carey due to the (increasingly rare) spark of skill he brings. Budget is no excuse- look at the amount of wasted signings. 2nd half against oxford was practically last year’s team ! What a wasted opportunity this season will be.

Needs to go now simple. Tactics are clueless and boring. Recent results show there is no improvement in performance.

If we lose playing one up front and lose when we experiment with two there are not many options left.Well done to DA for getting us promoted but if we lose to Bradford on Saturday we will be out of all cup competitions and bottom of the league. Those fans who believe we have turned the corner are as deluded as the manager.

The time is fast approaching where the board will have to make a decision in my opinion.

A defeat next Saturday coupled with a loss at home to fellow strugglers Gillingham should be the tipping point in order to allow a new man a little time to assess the squad before the January window.

Conversely If we can at least win the Gillingham game we will be back in the mix and I can't see much sense in sacking Derek after that if we lose a couple of games in the build up to the Xmas period, any new manager would surely need at least half a dozen games to assess the players at his disposal and identify where he needs to strengthen and who to recruit.

Now is the time to do a Keegan at Newcastle ! Put three up top if they score 2 lets get 3, try something different that would at least entertain the fans. Gamble for a change instead of this boring 1 up front !

Keep calm and carry on ...... Chairman got his priorities sorted out , bleddy car parking , and the Herald doesn’t take the opportunity to interrupt the interview and say all very well Mr Brent but have you noticed our league position and the dross tactics and the killing off of any passion to even think about pretty new plans incl ice rinks ......we are skating on thin ice NOW

There are not enough goals in this side for that.

We are out of a the worst football cup in recent history and people are losing their minds.

Taylor and Threlkeld being available could be a massive influence on our first team in the next two months.

We have been clawing back at the gap, it would be bizarre to jeopardise points going all out attack. If we keep doing what we are doing (and with Taylor at number 9, do it better), we will stay up.

Fans need to drop the expectations about playing great incisive football and realise we need to do whatever it takes at this stage to stay up.

There is a reason that Allardyce and Pulis have outstanding records for keeping confidence depleted sides up. They keep the defence solidified, concentrate on keeping goals out as a priority, and drive the importance of shape, as opposed to trying three up front fluid all out attacking football.

But we've conceded 29 in 20 games and have a goal difference of -14, so a solidified defence clearly isn't our forte. Only 4 teams have conceded more, and nobody has scored less. In our position, surely we need to try to be attacking just a wee bit more, as hoping to cling on at home and to try to snatch a goal has left us bottom of the league with almost half the season played.

So, by your admission there are not enough goals in this team - agree 100%, we need to rely on our defence to deny our opponents goal scoring opportunities, look at our goal difference - 100% disagree.

My mind might be playing tricks on me, but I'm sure when Mr Adams was introduced to the crowd at the Devonport end one evening when he first took the job, he said he was an entertaining manager who would look to outscore the opposition, ie if they score 3 we will go for 4. Or was he just saying what we wanted to hear.
