Players need to be free agents before the end of a transfer window so there's no chance of signing Young.

As for Houghton, with McHugh moving back into defence and the injury to Simpson there is no-one else to play in midfield so it was always likely that Houghton would play. Besides, I can't see Adams allowing any meddling in his team selection.

With regard to Reuben Reid, it may be that he has indicated that he does not intend to sign a new contract, if offered. If that is the case, why should the club pay for treatment that would only benefit another club?

This is assuming that the specialist treatment would not result in a rapid recovery in time for the play-offs.

I know from my own experience that to see a top Harley St consultant these days is circa £250 per 30 minutes. THe X rays and scans would be extra, but presumably Argyle's Hon. Orthopaedic Consultant could fix that in Plymouth with the results transmitted digitally to London or even carried physically by RR. Any treatment could be carried out in Plymouth at the recommendation of the London Consultant, subject to his regular scrutiny. If an operation is required which only the top London guy can perform, it is a different matter, but I have known of surgeons travelling to operate at a distant NH hospital theatre.

If there is any truth to this assertion re. RR, then the club has a duty of care towards a contracted player. I do not see JB as a man without compassion. He would also be aware that to acquire a replacement, fit striker, who has the scoring record of RR, would cost more than his London medical fees. I am not sure when RR's contract expires but this could impact on the situation, although releasing a part cripple, does not read very well for the Club.

As his injury (s) were picked up playing for Plymouth and he is not a loan player, who should pay his medicals .........

Does it matter if he joins another club next season if he fires us to wembley and then subsequently to League 1? If he completes his treatment I am lead to believe that he would be available for Pompey..Definitely worth a punt in my eyes although if you think Jake is going to send shivers through Mr Cook then perhaps it isn't worth the risk;-)

BTW the treatment is £400 per hour but then you need to pay hotel fees and transport

Not sure about the RR story but this shows once again that we need to stop relying on loan players, it's going to be interesting next season to see what the board/management do when they aren't an option to sign outside of the transfer windows.

Football rumours are great ain't they. I doubt very much either of these are true, partly because no way Chelsea are paying him 6k a week. He's not very good. Ruben Reid is more plausible and with the way Brent runs argyle these sort of rumours are bound to arise true or not.

When was it established that he needed this 'miracle' treatment?
I can't help thinking that these rumours will be more beneficial to Portsmouth than to Argyle at this stage of the season.

If I were Derek Adams and James Brent I would slap a maximum fine on Rubeun for telling his mates 'in club' information.

I would then suggest that he finds friends that he can confide in without having them slap it all over the Internet.

The Houghton thing starts to seem more realistic when you think back to how leggy he was at Exeter when boateng could have come on, even just to waste time. I'm starting to think the club are obliged to play him for a certain amount of minutes or else incur his wages.

Houghton isn't very good, but Chelsea don't half have a lot of money to splash around. They were paying Winston Bogarde £30k a week for three years without playing him.....

I know it's conjecture but those two rumours are appalling if true.

Luke Young is definitely better than Houghton. We might be crying out for a player "like Alan Smith", but it doesn't change the fact that Alan Smith is perceived very negatively by Magpies fans, and he's in and out of their struggling team. His teammate Stan Aborah is a better player for my money.

Great idea. Tell him who he can be friends with, that'll make him play better!

It does make you wonder if there is a hidden agenda from the OP.
All the 'information' about Reuben Reid seems to come from the same source.
