Utrecht and Eindhoven are both home in the Europa League on Thursday if anyone is staying near those cities.

As a bit of PR perhaps Argyle should have an open day over there as a thank you to any fans that traveled, similar to what Cardiff City did yesterday at Duchy College.

The meticulous planning yarn, still a funny one.

The smoke bomb tosh is hardly fresh info is it: planning to go somewhere without any certainty whether the training 'matches' would be reassessed and cancelled late in the day, and having no ready plan B, does unravel that. Again.

At least the club arranged travel packages will be (partially) refunded won't they?

FC Twente have posted a statement on their website, it looks like the same excuse used for the cancellation of the FC Emmen game - too many fans and not enough police. There is clearly a lot of wrong information being given. A Google translation below .....

The practice match Young FC Twente - Plymouth Argyle, to be played at the Training Center on Friday, does not go on. The municipality of Hengelo does not give permission for the duel.
Reason for this - the municipality of Hengelo is on the one hand - the inconveniences surrounding FC Twente's practice tackles during the preparation, on the other hand, it is unclear how many fans from England came across. Because only late contact has been reached about this match, the municipality of Hengelo indicates that insufficient police support can be used at this time that day to address any irregularities.
that's why it's been called off, they were expecting a duel thick c..ts

You can't use fan behaviour and smoke bombs as an excuse to cancel a game a week before it's played, knowing people will have paid to travel. This game has been arranged for months. It's just not on. Feel for the club and the players. The mayor's of both Emmen and Hengelo have made themselves look like tools, unfortunately at the expense of Argyle fans.

More info:

The local Mayor had previously granted permission for the game, which was to have been played at the Dutch club's training-ground, but revoked it earlier on Friday following consultations with the local police.

This included a review of fans’ behaviour at our game against MVV Maastricht last year. The authorities also noted that some Argyle followers have, in the past, detonated smoke devices in stadiums, which has also been a problem in Dutch football.

Yet again it's a weak excuse and turned the blame onto the fans. Yes, letting off smoke bombs in a stadium is wrong but if games are now cancelled because this "might" happen then no games will ever take place.

The minority has spoilt it for the majority but it's poor to blame this cancellation on the fans.

So you're not actually saying it's not true then.

Unfortunately, regardless of how much better at it the Dutch and Russians have become at it, hooliganism is still considered an English disease. Funny how both games have been cancelled after Everton's fans caused trouble last week.

Simples, stuff continental Europe and either stay within the British Isles (Scotland worked fine under Luggy plus there's Ireland) or go a bit further (the Gambia worked fine under Mick Jones).

If Europe doesn't want us, then take our money elsewhere

So the facts are both games are cancelled due to the mayors of each city being advised there are four hundred fans attending the games, and will be in their city's drinking, some of these fans may have banning orders?
I would presume this information on numbers, banning orders would have come from D&C police intelligence unit?

So there will still be four hundred Argyle fans in Holland may be in Emmen and Hengelo with no game to watch?
Having already bought their flight and hotel tickets, people will still travel, surely it would be better to control these fans in a stadium, instead of wandering around the local bars etc.
Football intelligence?

Next year book Austria been twice to watch Argyle in Europe, a great place, nice people, no butterflies, wouldn't bother with Holland again.

Strangely at Torquay the stewards said they had been told to only expect 200!

It would make more sense from a player point of view to organise some extra games over here. But not sure what that would mean for the travelling fans

I wonder if the mayors of these towns were put under pressure to make these decisions due to the fact the woman's euros are currently in holland and they don't want the country's ability to host such an event put into jeopardy by anything else.
Other than some Exeter fans posing as Devon and Cornwall police trying to spoil our pre season preparations I think of any other reason why this has happened
