Three changes, with Woods in for Opoku, Jephcott in for Ennis and Camera in for Grant.

The first ten minutes were dull.

After that Argyle started bussing around the Cobblers area and started to dominate.

Jephcott had an interchange with Hardie on 12 minutes and also had a flick onto the goal on 222 minutes from an Edwards pass following a cross from Lewis but went straight at the keeper.

Cooper had his first save on 20 minutes from Miller who was the most threatening of the Northampton team.

A careless crossfield pass by Lewis let in Miller for a shot which Cooper saved on 35 minutes.

Watts was having plenty of the ball in the first half. Mayor was reminding me of Wayne Rooney, moving further and further back to get the ball.

On 39 minutes the Cobblers goalie was booked for time wasting on a free-kick, however the irony is that from that kick, a ricocheted header from Fornah fell to Watson who beat Cooper from the edge of the area.

Jephcott is making the angles but not getting the service. Lewis seems to be struggling to make the right decisions. Aimson is hitting long high and hopeful balls to no-one.

1 V 0 at Half Time and Northampton had not scored at home this year … Only Argyle !

Second half, Lewis made two decent crosses but no-one got on the end of it.

On 64 mins Northampton extended their lead to 2 v 0 when Edwards couldn´t get the pass and lead to a corner, with Mayor giving a tame header which gave Watson the chance to volley home.

Grant then came on for Lewis, Ennis for Hardie, Moore for Edwards and Reeves for Camera.

Fornah then got booked on 74 minutes.

The whole half was crap and frustration, culminating with Woods getting sent off for a high kick so 3 game suspension..

Struggling to find a positive here. Who said “after the Lord Mayor´s show” ?

Started the game with a lax mentality & we just never seemed to get out of pre season friendly mode. No need for overreactions because we're still in a good position, but just as at Rochdale, tonight was a missed opportunity due to us being overly casual.

What can you say other than you hope that was an aberration. Pretty much to a man (bar Cooper and Grant) not a single player came away from that with an iota of credit. We were rubbish all over the pitch and looked utterly clueless. We’d have not scored if we were there all night.

That was just awful

Bite lip. Park it. Dust yourself down. Move on.

Clueless performance. Especially RL’s inept use of substitutions.

What inept substitutions, ???

Thought his subs, were spot on.

In the context of the season, agree about not overreactiing. In the context of the game itself, we were just appalling. I think that’s a fair reaction. Indeed probably on the kind side!

Woods completely stupid. He knows Opoku is injured and makes a completely reckless high boot challenge fully deserving the red. No excuse especially already at 2-0 down.

Poor performance all around but more so from Woods. Not much attacking football at all. Plenty of mistakes and hoof it forward only to lose possession.

Onwards and upwards. One bad performance doesn't mean we cant bounce back but hugely disappointing

I don’t mind losing to a good side, but Northampton were crap, they didn’t deserve that.

This just goes to show that we are not ready for the play offs no matter how we all hope to nick a spot, and we need some experienced players to help our young squad have a go at it next season

A classic Argyle result - hardly ever win at Northampton and always seem to struggle against bottom of the table sides. I had a very strong feeling before the match this wasn’t going to go well. It’s why Argyle have had a good season but are a long way from a promotion chasing side. Onwards....

Northampton were poor but defended resolutely. They seemed to want to waste time from the kickoff. Three times the keeper avoided collecting the nearby ball and went to retrieve one further away. When an Argyle player got the ball for him, he managed to miss control it and had to fetch it again. Eventually he got booked after just 39 minutes. What a strange mentality.

Northampton were aptly nicknamed as the cobblers but scored with two half chances from indecisive defending. Despite a lot of possession, Argyle created few chances. In injury time, the Northampton keeper made a very good save. Nothing really went right tonight, although the lack of creativity against a poor side made for poor viewing. Aimson was particularly aimless with his distribution. Watts played well winning lots of headers in the first half but generally a typical Argyle result against the bottom of the league.

Season over.
