Diagouraga (signs 18 month deal with Fleetwood - confirmed)

The Herald are reporting Saturday is his last game:
http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/f ... er-1007391

Star midfielder Toumani Diagouraga looks set to play his 17th and final match for Plymouth Argyle when Bury visit Home Park on Saturday.

However, his pedigree and recent form has attracted suitors. One club in the Championship and three in League One have offered Diagouraga contracts.

While he has enjoyed his time with Argyle and forged a close relationship with the Green Army, the former Brentford man’s family is in Leeds, 320 miles away.

Up to now, Derek Adams and the board have been unable to offer a package which rivals those made elsewhere and unless something drastic changes in the next week, Diagouraga will depart after Saturday.

100% expect Bury to be Toumani's last game for us just hope Adams has got a decent replacement lined up, the fact that our for improved after he took the place of Sarcevic/Ness in the centre of midfield was not a coincidence

Surely the reporter could have named the 4 Clubs that are allegedly interested. Why the secret?

That seems pretty conclusive to me.

Our attention should now be focused on the replacement and hopefully another gem can be unearthed, dusted off and allowed to regain there clarity and caret in the footballing scene.

At least this now looks like being resolved sooner rather than later and not dragged out as a "will he-won't he" saga taking up most of the transfer window, which will give DA more time to get in a decent replacement.

Makes no diferrence who he joins. Knowledge of who are interested will not have any influence on whether or not he stays or goes.

I'm still not clear on why his family is based in Leeds and why that's so important.

He is from Paris, only moved to Leeds in 2016, and apart from that club has spent his whole career in England since 2004 in the south (barring a short loan at Rotherham).

Having said that, I may be ignoring real life issues such as mortgages or living arrangements that tie him and his family to that city for the foreseeable future.

The herald headline is misleading, further down in the article it stats that he’s open to the idea of staying

The full sentence:

Diagouraga remains open to the idea of remaining at Argyle because of how much he has enjoyed his time in Devon, but cannot ignore the lure of his family in Yorkshire.

I reckon with the 18 months now on offer, this is a very close call for Toums.

If we lose TD I fear that we will return to the form we showed before he arrived - the change in the teams performances and results have been amazing since his first game for us - we has supporters should make it plain that we want him to stay, by cheering him through out the game and chanting - sign him up - it's never to late.

IF the Herald is right - you never know they maybe for once or they may be right off the mark as usual, but if we make it clear to the Player and the Club how much we want him to stay - it MAY make a difference.

We have Taylor and Oscar back as well, get a grip.

If/when he leaves, we'll still be on an upward curve.

It's also down to money....

"Up to now, Derek Adams and the board have been unable to offer a package which rivals those made elsewhere and unless something drastic changes in the next week, Diagouraga will depart after Saturday."

So it looks like other League One teams are offering better wages. Plus all other teams are closer to Leeds where he is based. No point in staying away from his family only to get less money.

So much for the "competitive budget".

I know we have those two players back - but you cannot ignore the turning point of our season was TD's arrival.

Statrting with the home game v Shrewsbury - noone gave us a chance against them, running away at the top at the time - we drew 1 - 1.
Since TD arrived, he has played in 14 League matches we have won 7, drawn 5 and lost only twice.

He will be a massive loss.

If location is a factor in his decision the only thing Argyle can do is offer more money than the ‘northern’ teams and then the question is how much would it take to keep him here. The Agent would love to get Clubs trying to outbid each other.
It would appear that as often happens location wins out over ‘competive budget’
We just have to hope that Derek can work his persuasive charm on him!
