I think Whelan has come out of this very well - PFA Player of the Year material I reckon.

Obviously it's not likely to happen, but it would make a change for the award to go to a player who showed that he cared about the well-being of a young player on the opposition team to the extent that Whelan did rather than one of the usual bigshots who is more likely to be noticed for gambling, philandering or generally being completely obnoxious. That's all I meant.

Not sure about player of the year, but he should get the same credit as Paolo Di Canio when he caught the ball, with the goal gaping, because the keeper was badly hurt.
