The forecast that says 38mph also says 'dangerously windy' on the same page. That is a contradiction. 70mph+ is dangerously windy.

The problem with the winds on the BBC forecast is that when the wind gets up above a certain level, it shows the gusts rather than the underlying wind.

The MetOffice shows both and currently shows roughly 30mph gusting to 55mph.
