We have to prioritise the budget and get players on the right areas first like centre midfield, left and right sided midfield and up front.

This is pretty much where I sit on this.
Nothing wrong with Sawyer - he'd be a cracking left-back at this level. But Purrington needs to get a chance - he should have had one last year, it was disgraceful Sheridan picked the frankly rubbish THD in front of him.
Maybe, even if Purrington gets 40 games next season he still won't ever really make it - but I'll tell you what, he definitely won't if we don't give the boy a fair shot.

... or it could be that the club fully expect Ben to be elsewhere next season?tonycholwell":17vqb7ay said:Of course, this could be a malicious rumour and Ben will rightly start where he should have been last season, nurtured and encouraged.

Sawyer would be an adequate replacement. But he would be a like for like replacement, not an additional signing to provide competition. It is unrealistic to expect a League 2 team to have 24 players fighting for 11 places, this is Argyle not Chelsea or Man. City.
As well as being an under-performing Manager with poor motivational skills and a lack of tactical nous, Sheridan's treatment of Purrington last season was shocking.
His obsession with loan players meant that we gave Holmes-Dennis 20-odd games of League experience at the expense of Purrington.
It may have been understandable if he was actually a better player, but he wasn't!
