Goodbye Argyle, thanks for the memories.

As an exile who spent 20 years in the Falklands and now living in Chile, one thing I will say is that it does make those few return trips to Home Park really special but thanks to modern media I probably follow Argyle more closely than I ever did!

I've been out here (Australia) for 13 years and it's a pain, where Argyle is concerned. But, I really appreciate and cherish the very few occasions that we are actually live on TV - Wembley, being an exception!!
There is something quite quaint about waking up on a Sunday morning to check the results, hoping that your day is going to start off in a good way!
I've actually embraced the A-league, i've been a season ticket holder for 9 years with MelbourneVictory. Added to that, the fact that it's a summer league means that going to games in Shorts and T-shirts is a season long proposition and not just the reserve of the 1st weeks of the season back home :)
My daughter is growing up as a Victory fan, it being her local club.
Get around it, the standard, in the main is higher than league 2.
Thanks for the info,
It's nice to know your enjoying supporting a side out there, can't get my head round that yet. Once I've settled in, I'll definitely check out my nearest club, wherever that is ? Possibly Central Coast.

Good luck with move Mork.
There is a massive amount of "Euro-snobbery" attached to football over here, which is a real shame. Lots of expats I know won't have anything to do with the A-league but are happy to pay to watch the Premier League. It's not too dissimilar to living in Plymouth and supporting Utd, Chelsea etc..etc.. and having absolutely no regard for the local team.
Central Coast are an interesting team. Suffering from crap management and a lack of broader interest. Their support is odd (in a good way). They don't really have an full-on vocal european/ South American type atmosphere like us or WSW or SFC but what they do have is a full on brass band who walk around the stadium playing things like the Tetris theme tune! It really is something to behold (I'll let you be the judge of whether it's a good/bad or weird thing)!!
And you can buy pints of booze and take it to your seat and drink at your leisure!!! Also, Mariners stadium is one of the more picturesque you will frequent.
With regards to Australia. Put simply, i'm never moving back to the UK! I'm here for good. The place isn't perfect but the good faaaar outweighs the bad!
Again, good luck with the move, fella.

I went to the Falklands in 1990 on HMS Danae. It stayed with me for life and has become a bit of an obsession. If I had a 'specialist subject' it'd be the Falklands Conflict, I must've read every book published on this subject

Enjoyed a pint or two in The Globe

I was on the Danae in the Falklands in 82 as CCWEA. My eldest was born whilst we were at air raid warning red in San Carlos water! Like Mork, I'm shortly to be leaving these shores for sunnier climes near Alicante so it's interesting to hear the views in this thread.

Hi Mork.

I left these shores for Australia 7 years ago, ironically from just up the road in ruan high lanes! Having grown up in the Cornish countryside it was quite eye opening moving the otherside of the world to a huge city like Sydney but i took no time falling in love with the place. As a country it has so much to offer and im sure once the total shock of the move has passed you'll settle and enjoy everything Australia has.

It was hard missing out on Argyle, doubly so because we we're going through our financial implosion at the time, but this website and the wonders of the internet kept me as close as i could be 22000 miles away! It is exciting waking up on a Sunday morning to check the scores overnight, and although the premier league is massive over there its nice educating the few about the proper teams in the fourth tier!

Good luck with the move, as a few have said their is more to life then argyle, but i fully appreciate the feeling of leaving it behind. You'll find out in no time youve left nothing behind because aside from not attending matches you'll still be a pilgrim.
Rudeness, can't believe you're from R H Lanes, I've lived in ST.Mawes all my life(52 years) and worked all over the Roseland for the past 35years, I'd be amazed if I didn't know you, or your family! Thanks for the good luck, it's nice that you've settled so well, I'm a bit long in the tooth for all this, but I'll give it a go! Cheers

good luck mate-hopefully you will rise up the leagues and get a few TV games. I subscribe to the Pompey player, this allows me to listen to local radio commentary of every game. However, if i wanted to listen any other game in the 3 football leagues such as Leeds v Sheff Wed, or Port vale v Fleetwood (random games) i can go on their player too. when we were at Grimsby, the wifi on Pomeys was dodgy so listened to the game via grimsby's player. We have listeners in Oz so I'm sure you will be fine..Good Luck

Where in Oz? Perth is like little Plymouth....definatley a few Argyle meet ups could be arranged I'm sure.
Correct, met quite a few greens when living there. When GOS had World Greens going, think there was over a dozen listed.
More Brits ( and South Aficans) in Perth than any other Oz City.

As others have stated, easy to keep in contact with all things Argyle.

After over 35 hrs here, I returned to Plymouth in 2012, for an extended holiday, two and a half years!!!! Bought a new house in Mount Wise, travelled all over, attended most Argyle matches, although the standard was poor under Sheridan.
In all honesty glad to return to Oz and start a new adventure here in Brisbane. Weather, space, big skies, food and the laid back Aussie larrikin spirit. Just a wonderful place to bring up a family.

Up to you to get out and enjoy the country and its people.
Whilst in Plymouth met Tin Tin and others whilst volunteering to help St Lukes Hospice, so rewarding.
Enough of my ramblings, welcome to Australia.
