Next year's team - do we really need a massive clear-out?

Losing at home 0-2 to Fleetwood, 0-2 to Scunthorpe, 0-4 York, 0-1 Burton & 0-2 Oxford & 0-3 Wycombe & 1-2 to the Greeks says it all really, the players Argyle have are simply not good enough to get us promotion.

Required, new players who can pass & receive a ball on the deck & are comfortable on the ball without resorting to hoofball.

I think you are placing too much emphasis on home form.

On the flip side of the coin, Argyle are equal fourth with the most away wins this season.

Look at Scunthorpe who are top of the table. Only 9 wins from 21 home games this season.

OK Emu- but only 2 defeats from 21 at home all season, Surely some emphasis must be placed on home form, it is where teams expect to pick up the majority of their points.

Here is our current squad and their contract status (thanks to Greens on Screen).

Out = out of contract at end of this season
Und = undisclosed.

My comment follows each one.... self explanatory, I hope.

Cole Out Let go
Berry Und Retain
Blanchard Out Let go
Hourihane Jun-15 Retain
Alessandra Jun-15 Retain
Boco Out Let go
Reid Out Sign on
Morgan Jun-15 Sell or loan out.
Blizzard Jun-15 Retain.
Young Und ?
Wotton Out Let go
Trotman Out Let go
Nelson Und Retain
Harvey Out Retain
Thomas Out Retain
Banton Jun-15 Retain
Lecointe Und Retain
McCormick Out Retain
Purrington Und Retain
Parsons Out Let go.
Gurrieri Out Retain
Showunmi Out Let go
Dawson Out Let go
Richards Out ?
Vassell Out ?

The retain and sign on list is not very long at 13, with 3 undecided.
If we stay in L2 (very likely) I expect our playing budget to be less than this year unless the finances are bolstered by new faces in the Boardroom, so a smaller squad is needed - maybe 21-22? The above list excludes the young players recently offered professional contracts (River Allen + 1 other I think but you would expect these to be peripheral at this stage).
I would therefore hope for 4-5 significant new player signings and the rest of the squad to comprise a small number of loans as the season progresses.

Personally, I'm expecting Blanchard, Richards, Berry, Boco, Vassell and potentially Gurierri to leave this summer.
I think Berry will depend on what right backs will be avaliable to Sheridan in the summer.

Boco and Blanchard I'm not bothered if they leave; I think there will be better players than these avaliable in the summer.

I would like to see Gurerri to stay if we do stay in league 2.

Undecided on Vassell and Richards as I have only see them play a couple of time this season.

Cole - I don't really mind.
McCormick - needs to stay long term.
Blanchard- Don't mind but I'd rather him stay
Trotman - goodness get rid!
Nelson - he's the most important player we need to resign.
Richards - keep, 2 year deal.
Berry - not really bothered.
Young - keep, 2 year deal.
Boco - thanks Rommy but I'll be stunned and annoyed if you are kept.
Vassell - not bothered but I lean toward letting him go.
Gurrieri - love his attitude, wouldn't mind keeping him but if better arises then he can leave.
Wotton - 1 year deal.
Reid - offer a good contract.

Don't see why he wouldn't stay? He loves it here, is getting games and gets on with Luke. Keepers love competition. And with no disrespect I doubt he'd get a bigger/higher club.

No, like all footballers, keepers want first team football.

He's only playing cause McCormick is injured and I'd imagine he realises that.

He could probably get a better offer easily enough, with first team football guaranteed.

Oh! I've never done one of these :D

1. Jake Cole - I'd like to keep him, very good backup, but could easily be first choice elsewhere
2. Luke McCormick - Definitely keep, we'd have a hard time replacing him
3. Blanchard - Not overly fussed, provided we suitable replace
4. Trotman - Keep (I thought we gave him an 18 month contract?)
5. Richards - Keep, if he's as good as some people say he is (which I'm sure Shez will be able to judge) then he must be worth keeping hold of
6. Nelson - Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep, KEEP
7. Berry - I like Berry, he's still young and will get better I'm sure, has played well as a wingback and a full back
8. Young - Keep for sure, will be a tidy player sooner rather than later I'd guess
9. Boco - I'm not overly fussed with Rommy, if his wages would go on a better player then get rid
10. Vassell - I haven't been too impressed with Vassell but Shez seems to like him, maybe a one year contract just to see what he can do if/when he's given the chance
11. Wotton - I'd imagine he'll retire if we don't offer him a deal, I wouldn't be too concerned if he left. he has his days but they're becoming fewer and farther between, offer him a one year deal but on low(ish) wages and let him decide
12. Gurrieri - Another one I'm on the fence about, if we can find a better player or Shez is confident of finding a better player since we won't have a whole summer to think about this, then I'd maybe be inclined to let him go
13. Reid - Who'd willingly let a 20-goal-a-season striker go?! Keep

1. Jake Cole- keep though it wouldn't surprise me if he went elsewhere
2. Luke McCormick- keep-long term deal
3. Blanchard- go, though he has been a good servant in our darkest days but no room for sentiment in football
4. Trotman- i would keep but understand why many wouldn't
5. Richards- def keep
6. Nelson- long term deal
7. Berry- sorry but goodbye
8. Young-long term deal
9. Boco- def git rid
10. Vassell- let go-will probably thrive in a different environment
11. Wotton- 1 more year
12. Gurerri- keep for sure
13. Reid (loan- parent club contract expires)- would try and sign on a 2 yr deal

I suspect next year's squad wont be that much different from this year.
I would also offer Thomas a year and hope that someone comes in and buys Morgan and Blizzard though I wouldn't mind if Morgan stays.
