It would only be 1,000 for the first match. If successful, it would increase match on match.

But you would have to start with 1,000, and agree it would probably be run at a loss.that game.

Irrelevant now.

For now, perhaps. Lots of pressure coming to bear now from sports clubs of all types. Farcical situation. Still ok to eat out though, so that’s the main thing

Perhaps???

No. It is irrelevant.

That’s just an opinion Ponty. Not actually a fact. If it were irrelevant, there wouldn’t be top-level discussions going on with the relevant bodies and Government as we speak.

Couldn’t the club get some sort of assessment carried out as proof that limited crowds could be safely accommodated and get the backing of the public health authority?

I know the law is currently in place preventing crowds, but some solid evidence that it would be safe at Home Park could be the first step in getting this reviewed.

Simon Hallett has been fantastic in keeping the club running so far, but there is a limit to the cash he can inject. Argyle could well fold unless something is done to generate more income. I’d like the club to be as pro-active as possible and try and lead the way in this nationally.

Crack team’ appointed to speed up the return of fans
Ben Rumsby
Plans to get fans back into stadiums will be stepped up this week when the Government unveils a “crack team” charged with finding high-tech solutions to a shut-out it has extended for up to another six months.

Barely 48 hours after scrapping the return of crowds in professional and semi-professional sport following a spike in coronavirus cases, ministers are poised to announce the make-up of the Sport Tech Innovation Group, which will feature sport, health and tech experts led by David Ross, co-founder of the Carphone Warehouse.

Plans to create this “crack team” were announced last month by Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary, who said it would look at innovations such as tracking devices to measure social distancing between fans, fluorescent disinfectants to reveal how often surfaces were touched and ways of making travel to and from venues safer.

The group will also feature Premier League chairman Gary Hoffman, Sport England vice-chair Natalie Ceeney and Jonathan Van-Tam, the deputy chief medical officer for England, with the Sports Grounds Safety Authority acting as secretariat.

Dowden said it would liaise with sports bodies including the Premier League and England and Wales Cricket Board and would also help get people back in theatres, cinemas and music venues.

The group will be under even more pressure to come up with solutions after the Government scrapped plans to authorise the return of crowds at pro and semi-pro level on Oct 1, leaving sport on the brink of financial collapse. Ministers had previously been set to allow venues to be up to a third full provided strict social distancing was enforced. The Government also paused its pilot programme for the return of crowds, which had already seen those events involved restricted to welcoming up to 1,000 spectators earlier this month following the resurgence of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian government insists it is “safe” for fans to attend tonight’s Super Cup between Bayern Munich and Sevilla, despite opposition saying they will be “experimental rabbits”. Budapest’s Puskas Arena, with a 67,000 capacity, is expected to be a third full.

This weekend, Formula One will stage the biggest sporting spectator event of the Covid-19 era, with 30,000 fans expected for the Russian Grand Prix. Tens of thousands of fans will be admitted to Sochi’s Olympic Park to watch Lewis Hamilton bidding to match Michael Schumacher’s victory record.

Russia is one of only four countries in the world to have exceeded one million Covid-19 cases and on Tuesday, 6,215 new infections were reported.

Patronise away Ponty. Just because not everyone buys into the doomsday scenario. Might be worth you reading some of the alternative views by mainstream scientists and academics rather than just peddling the rhetoric.

was at Tavi V Gosport last night in FAC. crowd 223. a great night and pleased to see live footy again but little evidence if any of awareness of need to social distance. Can understand why those in power are nervous about letting larger crowds attend live events. Especially football where fans openly sing ;we do what we want' and like the herd mentality.

would not be surprised to see EFL clubs and conference put 'on hold' now until crowds let back in in full. it can simply not be financially viable to operate with closed grounds? be interested to see how many ifollow passes are actually purchased over and above season ticket holders for league games, not many i suspect. would be great to see all figures as this is the covid attendance figure in effect!

anticipate non playing staff at argyle will be furloughed again under the new scheme or released as this season effectively looks behind closed doors if it is not scrapped now.

doomy and gloomy but better than spending what is left in the pot now on propping up something that is effectively a non sense at our level, football with no fans at our level is just not worth it. let the pandemic end and not let clubs go bust trying to fund trying to keep playing players, staff etc which seems a bit of an unrealistic non sense.. .

I watched a pre-season friendly yesterday - Racing v Ath Bilbao, which had 1,000 fans in the ground. I can't fathom why it's deemed OK in Spain, and not in England.

One Government has it wrong, clearly.

Up to 9,300 at some clubs in Germany last week.
