I don't get the Swan or McLean comments. Yea both cost money but they did play at times for us.

For me

Calvin Plummer
The Yank. What was all that signing all about!!!
Terrible West.
Jim Beglin

Quite a lot of the Hodges era signings were poor. Phil Starbuck anyone

Thought a number of David Kemp signings were woeful. Morrys Scott, Quamina, Meaker and for the money we paid Dave Regis was a proper cart horse. Griffiths was awful and Swann even worse.

The most frustrating signing was Goodwillie. Had so much talent and what a waste.

You don't understand the Swan comments? What is it about paying £300,000 for a poisonous money-grabber who hated most of his teammates and was almost single-handedly responsible for turning a promotion-chasing team into a relegated one that you don't understand?!

Because he played 'at times' that makes his disastrous impact okay?

I agree on Peter Swan and would like to add two Mick Jones signings;
Earl Jean (headless chicken)
Phil Starbuck (Stella name was a player exchange for Ade Littejohn, we were shortchanged big style)
Anyone remember them?

In more recent time, Andre Blackman was woeful and looked completely out of his depth.

Based on what the Green Army saw of him, its incredible to think after he left Argyle, he played 3 games in The Championship and over 50 in L1 and L2 before slipping into non league.

What player was it that kicked or punched the dugout and smashed It at Home Park? Remember it well and the crowd reaction.

Steve MacLean was alot of money for very little output and a horrible attitude to go with it, but there was a decent player hiding in there somewhere!

Emile Mpenza was also alot of money but was a decent player - we just didnt see enough of him!

Taribo West was utter cr*p but to be fair, he was about 50.

Therefore my pick goes to Kenny Cooper.... he was just an awful awful footballer and is synonymous with the cancer which infected our club during that new world rubbish and Paul Mariner's ill-fated turn as head coach.

No mate doesn't make it ok but I think their were worse signings.

Swan did not turn that team around by himself. Steve Castles interview is enlightening into why the season went Minkty. He even says they under performed and don't forget Castle was injured for a great chunk of that season and was our talisman in midfield.

I met Swan a couple of times for a beer and he was ok. I did take the pee though when he asked me to lend him some money for the casino.
Perhaps that clouds my judgement of him slightly.

Considering Stapleton wouldn't give Holloway £200k to sign Charlie Adam, the £500k he gave Luggy to sign MacLean puts him right up there. Imagine if Ollie was backed with a relatively small amount and we brought in the man who almost single-handedly got Blackpool to the Premier League? We could be looking at a very different club right now.

None of that is MacLean's fault obviously, but context.is always important.
