im Pretty sure derek isnā€™t ā€œdicking aroundā€ he will be just as frustrated as us, even more so in fact. He has to try and find a striker that is going to add value to his squad within the half arsed budget heā€™s been given.

My point being is that heā€™s managed to add a defender to his squad (if reports are to be believed) and apparently wants to add a midfield plAyer to an already full quota but heā€™s still not (since August) rectified his lack of strikers. How about some of you answering that instead of just berating me.

You seriously donā€™t trust him to not leave the squad with only one striker for the rest of the season. Give the man some credit. And nobody is berating you, just disagreeing. Your reaction to this is consistently overly combative.

Iā€™m seriously questioning why he didnā€™t get a striker in August when there was an obvious need of one. All through the pre-season friendlies we needed one but none appeared which is why he grabbed onto the first forward that came along in September (1 month after the season started) and we ended up with Ciftci.

Now, since we knew that was a bust, why didnā€™t he strive to have a striker lined up as soon as this window started. It isnā€™t like managers are banned from talking to each other in between windows. Toumani left soon after the window opened so it doesnā€™t sound right that a deal couldnā€™t have been sorted before.

If itā€™s true that Bradford have had 3 bids turned down for Taylor it appears theyā€™re not going away easily so whilst weā€™re unlikely to end up selling Taylor itā€™s not out of the realms of possibility that we wonā€™t find ourselves with a seriously peed off player after this window closes. That is speculation of course.

Does seem strange that DA is still struggling to find us a decent striker given that we have been desperate for so long. I question our scouting system who seem unable to find a suitable striker anywhere willing to join a league 1 club.

That is speculation of course.

Ciftci was not a terrible signing on paper and DA would have seen what he was capable of in his prime at Dundee Utd, a club not dissimilar from us in many ways, including preferred playing styles, so I donā€™t seem him as the bargain basement signing you do. It didnā€™t work out. He also tried his best to sign Simon Church too, letā€™s not forget. Also need to beat in mind the change in loan rules, so August is the only time for any deals with contracted players. As for having players lined up ready at the start of the window, regrettably with the power of agents touting for the best deal, that simply isnā€™t how it works anymore.

Diagouraga was on a short term deal that worked out exceedingly well for both parties. We did the best we could do to retain him, but couldnā€™t.

As for Taylor, heā€™s on to a good thing here and of course were he to leave, we would be, temporarily, severely deficient up front to put it mildly.

As for the imminent arrival of Vyner, it is competition for places and by all suggestions a good signing. I see no point in knocking DA if he can bring in players that improve the quality of the squad.

If we are on here with the deadline shut with no additions up front, then we will all be massively disappointed.

Ade, signing a striker is little to do with Derek.

He tells the board who he wants, it is up to the board to sign him. You can bet your last penny Derek wants his signings asap.

Hmm not sure this was a priority area to be honest.

A replacement for Toums or 2 strikers (with all the ones leaving) maybe three if Taylor is sold.

Perhaps this means either Oscar replacing Toums, Miller leaving Or a replacement for Bradley. Cant see him.being cover.

Anyway we always do ok with City loanees and he is Championship standard so welcome.

I cant understand DA and strikers. If Taylor is sold we are in doodoo

Maybe DA's new tactic is not to play with 1 upfront and have a fake No 9

Have to say our actions in the transfer market leave an awful lot to be desired, sorry concerned.

If thatā€™s the case then that explains everything. Martyn Starnes left to sort out the deals doesnā€™t fill me with confidence.

Iā€™d say signing a striker or rather finding a striker is exactly to do with DA. We donā€™t have a director of football and so it is up to Adams to come up with a player that suits the style he wants to play, has a chance to fit in with the kind of people in the team and is within a likely budget. I for one believe if Adams had such a target that as with Bradfordā€™s attempts to secure Taylor that JB would be every bit as forceful once the targ t has been found.

Get a grip man!

As if he's not trying to get one in, give him some credit, please.

Good quality target men don't come easy nor do they come cheap. If they're good enough to compete with Taylor then they can get first team football at most L1/L2 clubs. When they look at Argyle they see a team playing a 1 man system with a forward at the top of his game, hardly prime location if you want to play every week.

We won't go without, either Taylor leaves and we end up with a serious war chest to replace him or he stays and we get someone in later in the window when the competition starts to dry up.

Worst case we have Taylor and Jervis and have to recall Fletcher or Blissett. We still have forwards remember it's not as if we sold them.

Iā€™m only speaking in terms of hindsight but Ciftci was a terrible signing for Argyle, unfit, uninterested and unable to play in the system we needed him to.

Diagouraga was on a short term deal that worked out exceedingly well for both parties. We did the best we could do to retain him, but couldnā€™t.
We did try to sign him on longer but others wanted him as much. It did not stop them making an offer within 2-3 days of the window opening.

As for Taylor, heā€™s on to a good thing here and of course were he to leave, we would be, temporarily, severely deficient up front to put it mildly.
He owes us because we paid him whilst he was injured but loyalty is rare in football.

As for the imminent arrival of Vyner, it is competition for places and by all suggestions a good signing. I see no point in knocking DA if he can bring in players that improve the quality of the squad.
A decent signing but in an area we have covered.

In terms of the signing; great news if true.

We do need a defender, if rumours are to be believed we're losing Sokolic who can't buy a place on the bench anyway. Songo'o is our only cover in both midfield and defence, Oscar might have to play in midfield, there's mutterings of Bradley having suitors. Getting a defender is surely a must.

Do people really want Adams to look at positions one at a time in order of our desperation? He'd be bleddy stupid if he did. He'll have a shopping list and will have enquired about everyone on it. Responses are then down to clubs, players and agents. When they come back to us we try and get something sorted. I'd have thought it was obvious but response times are out of our hands.

Just a long shot but with Luke Berry probably joining from ā€˜Lutonā€™ maybe thereā€™s an agreement with Bradley going the other way hence the need for a centre back ???

You'd have thought so wouldn't you Ollie.

What appears an obvious process to some, seems a mind bending concept others are struggling to grasp.

:sigh:
